I don't know the details of any deals but it strikes me as both strange and rather sad to see such a high profile recording (the cast included Voigt in her considerable prime, Heppner, Dessay and Von Otter) seemingly written off in such a way. In the end it won me over but I was wondering what people feel about opera in English as a whole, whether on record or in the theatre. There's some repertoire where it seems to work really well (usually comedies) and other works where I really miss the colour of the original language (especially Puccini/Verdi). Dichterliebe is just about my favorite song cycle and have a modest collection of recordings though (needless to say) GF's version is the best as far as I'm concerned. However, I would love to know if Heinrich Schlusnus ever recorded it. Do any of you know of such a recording? I have him singing Ich Grolle Nicht but none of the other songs.
