DG flogging recordings to Brilliant Classics

I'm amazed to see among next month's new releases is Sinopoli's DG recording of Ariadne auf Naxos from eight years ago making an appearence on Brilliant Classics. I don't know the details of any deals but it strikes me as both strange and rather sad to see such a high profile recording (the cast included Voigt in her considerable prime, Heppner, Dessay and Von Otter) seemingly written off in such a way. It also doesn't seem much of a tribute to Sinopoli; presumably with all his recordings being ...

Salome in English

I have to admit approaching Salome in English - on Chandos's excellent new recording http://www.musicalcriticism.com/recordings/cd-chandos-salome-1008.shtml - with a certain trepidation. In the end it won me over but I was wondering what people feel about opera in English as a whole, whether on record or in the theatre. There's some repertoire where it seems to work really well (usually comedies) and other works where I really miss the colour of the original language (especially Puccini/Verdi).

Hi I would be very interested in knowing if anybody has purchased the new recording by Renee Fleming of the Four Last Songs and what their views are. Being a huge fan of hers, and having seen her perform it at the Proms I would love to purchase it but am unsure due to mixed reviews. Plus I own 2 superb but different interpretations by funnily enough Finland's most famous sopranos, Karita Mattila and Soile Isokoski.

Looking forward to the feedback.

I absolutely loved Ciofi's performance in Straniera at the RFH last year, and once again I'm thrilled by her on Opera Rara's recording.

Has anyone else ever had this experience - of having enjoyed something in person and being disappointed by the recording associated with it?

Dichterliebe

I very much enjoyed Hugo's review on Gerald Finley's new CD of Dichterliebe and other Heine settings. Dichterliebe is just about my favorite song cycle and have a modest collection of recordings though (needless to say) GF's version is the best as far as I'm concerned. However, I would love to know if Heinrich Schlusnus ever recorded it. Do any of you know of such a recording? I have him singing Ich Grolle Nicht but none of the other songs.
