The first tribal musical was the pioneer in musical history that discussed the sensitive topics like sexual revolution, drug abuse and several of its songs provoked anti-Vietnam War thoughts. The serious musical was also the first concept musical on Broadway that hit its theater in 1968 and at that time it met with controversy and got some mixed feedback. However just within two years of its Broadway running it became a huge financial success and it gave a new life to the hippie culture.

The main theme of the show is a group of hippie kids forming themselves as a tribe in New York claiming their freedom from rules and their wish for peace. This was the youth movement in 1960s and 1970’s that changed the world.
