Gramophone Awards 2008 Empty Gramophone Awards 2008

Post  hugo Sun Sep 28, 2008 3:19 pm

I wonder if anyone has any reactions to the Gramophone Awards, which have just been announced, here are some of the winners...
  • Artist of the year: Hilary Hahn [the public seem to be quite keen on these young female violinists, after Julia Fischer won last year]

  • Baroque Opera: Monteverdi - Orfeo: La Venexiana/Cavina (Glossa)Chamber: Brahms/Schumann Quintets: Andsnes/Artemis Quartet (Virgin)

  • Contemporary: Harvey - Body Mandala: BBCSSO/Volkov (NMC)

  • Opera: Janacek: The Excursions of Mr. Broucek: BBCSO/Belohlavek (DG)

  • Orchestral: Myaskovsky the 27(!) Symphonies: Svetlanov (Warner)

  • Recording of the year/Instrumental: Beethoven sonatas vol. 4: Paul Lewis (HM)

Anyone got any comments? Feel anything's missing?

Also, anyone got any thoughts on Stephen Hough's Saint-Saens concertos winning the 'Gold Recording', i.e. the best overal winner in the awards' history?
